Next stop: Poland/Ukraine for Trap's green army

Historically, play-offs have never really gone in Ireland‘s favour. I blogged last week how nervous I was prior to kick-off in Tallinn. Even though Ireland were favourites to beat Estonia over the two legs, one couldn’t help but be nervous. As you may well know, we did. We are going to Euro 2012 next June.

Ecstacy for the boys in green

We have now been drawn in the forth group of seeds, UEFA confirmed this morning. With the exception of the co-hosts, the pots have been decided on the countries’ UEFA coefficient rankings. Here’s are the seedings:

Pot 1: Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine.
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia.
Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden.
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland.

As hosts, Poland have already been allocated Group A, while Ukraine have already been allocated Group D. With that in mind, the possibility of Ireland having Spain, England and Germany in our group appears to be an enormous mountain to climb. Not that Trap is too worried – he’s aiming high. “Greece won Euro 2004. With this group of players, why not? It’s not a dream.” the Italian said.

The draw for the groups take place on December 2nd in Kiev. Check back here to see them in full along with my opinion on said groups. In the meantime, free up your calendar for next summer – we’re going to Poland/Ukraine.
